The numbered trees
The trees in Berlin are numbered. Here is a wonderful map with the trees and their numbers, and here the data can be downloaded. There are inconsistencies between both data sets though.
As a hobby I'm visiting the trees with the number 999 and take a photo each. This is where they are:

No success
Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf
The Waldschulallee tree isn’t accessible since it is on a school property.
Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg
The tree at Volkspark Friedrichshain didn't have its number tag.
Lichtenberg
Tree 997 and 1000 on Zentralfriedhof Friedrichsfelde could be found. Suspected tree 999 didn't have its number.
Marzahn-Hellersdorf
The tree at Mehrower Allee didn't have its number tag.
Neukölln
The tree at Friedhof Columbiadamm is cut down, the stump was found. The tree at BBR-Grünanlage was fallen over, the root stock was overgrown with ivy.
The trees at Park am Buschkrug-Spielplatz II, Hochspannungsweg-Grünanlage and Fritz-Reuter-Allee-Grünanlage didn't have their number tags.
Pankow
There is data inconsistency and no pinned numbers in the 999 area of trees at Schlosspark Buch.
The white pine at Ernst-Thälmann-Park and the Norway maple at Schlosspark Schönhausen didn't have their number tags.
The Black Locust at Am Posseberg couldn't be found and was likely cut down.
Spandau
The tree at Nördlicher Rieselfeldabfanggraben couldn't be visited due to being in a natural reserve. As fas as I could tell from the street, it probably exists but didn't have its number tag.
The tree at Heerstraße that was supposed to be tree number 999 had a tag 688, and some trees in the area had two tags with different numbers.
Tempelhof-Schöneberg
The suspected tree at Insulaner didn't have its number tag.
